Kyphoplasty & Vertebroplasty

What is Kyphoplasty & Vertebroplasty?

Kyphoplasty and vertebroplasty are minimally invasive procedures used to treat spinal compression fractures, often caused by osteoporosis or trauma. In vertebroplasty, bone cement is injected directly into the fractured vertebra to stabilize it. In kyphoplasty, a small balloon is first inflated to restore vertebral height before the cement is placed.

Rebuild your spine. Regain your strength. Walk tall again.

Reasons For Treatment

  • Painful spinal compression fractures
  • Osteoporotic or traumatic vertebral collapse
  • Reduced mobility or posture due to spinal fractures
  • Persistent back pain despite rest and medication
  • Need to stabilize spinal column and prevent further collapse
  • Improve overall spine function and daily mobility

How To Prepare

Fasting is typically required for 6 hours before the procedure. Wear comfortable clothing, and remove all jewelry and metal. Bring a list of current medications, and arrange transportation home. Notify your provider if you have any bleeding disorders or take blood thinners.

What To Expect After Treatment

Most patients notice immediate or next-day relief from back pain. Mild soreness at the site may occur but resolves quickly. You’ll need to avoid heavy lifting and bending for a few days. Walking is encouraged soon after the procedure to support recovery.

Possible Side Effects

  • Mild soreness or stiffness
  • Infection or bleeding (rare)
  • Cement leakage into surrounding tissue (rare)
  • Allergic reaction to materials (rare)
  • Nerve injury or spinal cord compression (very rare)
